2001: A Technology Odyssey August 3-5, 2001, in Pittsburgh, PA. The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) has joined with the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) to host the most comprehensive conference on assistive technology for people who are blind or visually impaired. The 2001: A Technology Odyssey conference will be held at the Westin Hotel (formerly known as the DoubleTree Hotel) in Pittsburgh, PA. This meeting will explore the future of access technology through lectures, presentations, and hands-on training using the newest access software and devices.
The keynote speakers will be Richard Chandler, chairman and president of Freedom Scientific, Inc. and John Williams, assistive technology columnist for Business Week Online. Richard Chandler will speak about "The Future of Access Technology: An Industry in Transition."
John Williams writes a weekly column for Business Week Online on the disability field and the adaptive technology industry, bringing these issues to a broad audience. He will discuss ways to market assistive technology products for the blind and visually impaired user to the private sector.

Wilderness Inquiry: Okefenokee Canoe Adventure. Observe alligators, herons, ibis and otters while paddling through cypress forest, narrow channels and "prairies." Deep Sea Fishing Club begins its fifty-third season. Reserve your position at the rail for one or more deep sea fishing trips scheduled this year by The Helen Keller Fishing Club. The Club is now scheduling trips aboard boats for the 2001 season from ports along the north and south shores of Long Island.
The club is entering its fifty-third season and is the only deep sea fishing club in the United States for men and women who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf-blind.
