This section is dedicated to the knowledge about Islam. We shall post articles of learned scholars on various aspects of Islamic teachings, practices and philosphies.

Authenticity of the Qur'an

Proofs that it is a Revelation from Allah

By Shaikh Abdur-Raheem Green

"The whole issue of whether the West will accept Islam or not has been a topic of debate amongst Muslim scholars and thinkers. It seems unlikely that there will be any sort of military conquest of the Western world, at least in the foreseeable future, but conquest is not always through arms. Indonesia and Malaysia never saw invading Muslims armies. Islam "conquered" these lands with a different weapon altogether . The weapon was Islam itself. The real threat from the growth of "fundamentalism" to those in the Western, and other, parts of the world who would like to see Islam far removed from influencing the way they run their countries, is not of invading hoards of Muslim militants, but rather the effect of a practical example of Islam in operation in the form of a true Islamic state."

Fasting in Islam

Saleem Kayani

"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you in order that you may attain God-consciousness. Ramadan is the month in which the Qur'an was revealed as a guide to mankind, and as clear evidence for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So whoever among you witnesses this month, let him spend it in fasting, but if anyone is ill or on a journey, the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. God intends ease for you and He does not intend hardship, and (He desires) that you should complete the prescribed period and that you may glorify God for guiding you and that you may be thankful. Surah 2:183-185"

The Compilation of the Qur'an

By Ashur Shamis

"A study of the available historical evidences indi- cates that the documentation and compilation of the Qur'an passed through three distinct phases: the Prophet's life since the beginning of his call until his death, a period of about 22 years during which the Qur'an existed in written form but no authoritative copy was available; the period im- mediately following the Prophet's death and up to the reign of the third Khatita, Uthman, about 12 years, when a standard written version of the Qur'an was compiled but was not released to the public; the time of 'Uthman's Khilata when an authoritative copy was verified, endorsed and published. Let us now look closely into each of these phases."

The Finality of Prophethood

Syed Abul A'la Maudoodi

"A group who has raised the heresy of a new prophethood in modern times explains the meaning of the idea of the "Finality of Prophethood" as the 'Stamp of Prophethood' thereby implying that all prophets who would succeed Muhammad (PBUH) will bear his stamp and will attain to prophethood by his seal alone. No one, in other words, who does not bear the seal of Muhammad (PBUH) will attain the status of Prophethood. But the context in which the term "the last in the line of Prophets" has been revealed in the Holy Qur'an leaves no scope for such speculation."

The Essentiality of Knowledge For Being A Muslim

Syed Abul A'la Maudoodi

"On this knowledge, the necessity of which I am explaining to you, depends yours and your children's being Muslims and remaining as Muslims. This is not an ordinary thing which may be neglected. You do not show any carelessness in cultivating your land, in irrigating and protecting your crops, in supplying fodder to your cattle and in other work of your profession, simply because if you do so you will be starved to death and will lose a precious thing like life."

The Effects of Tawhid on Human Life

Syed Abul A'la Maudoodi

"This belief produces in man the highest degree of self-respect and self esteem. The believer knows that Allah alone is the Possessor of all power, and that none besides Him can benefit or harm a person, or provide for his needs, or give and take away life or wield authority or influence. This conviction makes him indifferent to, and independent and fearless of, all powers other than those of God. He never bows his head in homage to any of God's creatures, nor does he stretch out his hand before anyone else. He is not overawed by anybody's greatness."

Answering needs by the Qur'an

By Mozaffer Partowmah

The Qur'anic Phenomenon

By Malek Bennabi

"Up to this point, "The miracle of the Qur'an" was based on the major argument of the transcend- ence of the "Word of God" on the "speech" of man. Hitherto, the commentary had recourse to the style to prove the miracle of the Qur'an on a rational basis. But in drawing conclusions from the Margoliouth hypothesis, as in the case of Dr. Sabbagh, it is exactly this basis which would be in error. "

The Qur'an - its promise and our obligations

By M. Naseem

"It is logical to presume that on the Day of Judgement it is this aspect of his existence that man will be most questioned about and not the religious practices which are only a means to develop abilities for the proper discharge of his main duties. These will be certainly questioned but only in the context of how far these were utilized to enhance the potential ability that has been bestowed on him. Their neglect will cert- ainly be punished not because this manifests any insult to God (He cannot be insulted) but because it is an insult to ourselves and a neg- lect of ourselves."

The Purpose of Life

"A Muslim believes that the purpose of life is to worship Allah. Worshipping Allah does not mean we spend our entire lives in constant seclusion and absolute meditation. To worship Allah is to live life according to His commands, not to run away from it. To worship Allah is to know Him, to love Him, to obey His commands, to enforce His laws in every aspect of life, to serve His cause by doing right and shunning evil and to be just to Him, to ourselves and to our fellow human beings."

The Islamic Concept of Life

"The chief characteristic of Islam is that it makes no distinction between the spiritual and the secular in life. Its aim is to shape both individual lives as well as society as a whole in ways that will ensure that the Kingdom of Allah may really be established on earth and that peace, contentment and well-being may fill the world. The Islamic way of life is thus based on a unique concept of man's place in the universe. That is why it is necessary that, before we discuss the moral, social, political and economic systems of Islam, we should have a clear idea of what that concept is."

The Hereafter

Dr. Ja'far Sheikh Idris Author of "The Pillars of Faith"

"The Qur'anic arguments for the reality of another life after death are intended to prove that it is possible and also desirable that there should be such a life, and that without believing in it our belief in the true God cannot be complete."
