Wheeling Elementary Receives Thanks for Support to New York School

Kathy Gobin and APS Board Member Debbie Barton look through some of the artwork that was sent to Wheeling Elementary from Public School 24Q in Flushing, New York.

Wheeling Elementary School received thanks for their support to Public School 24Q in Flushing, New York. During the month after the September 11 terrorist attacks, Wheeling students and families donated nearly $600 and sent it along with a wall-sized American flag which featured letters to the students of the New York school.

Last week, Wheeling received posters, a photo album of PS24Q, student artwork featuring New York landmarks, and postcards from PS24Q students thanking Wheeling Elementary for their support.

"We would like to thank you, your staff, and all your students for the enormous outpour of sympathy, good will and support which you all sent to New Yorkers as a result of the tragedy that occurred at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Your flag is a wonderful and touching display of your collaborative efforts to share your feelings and prayers with us," wrote PS24Q Principal Lori Golan.

Welcome to Jewell

OPEN INVITATION TO GRANDPARENTS....
Jewell would like to extend an open invitation to grandparents to visit Jewell Elementary School during the year. In this age, many grandparents live far away from their grandchildren and visit at various times of the year. When your grandparents are visiting from out of town, please call the school and arrange for them to spend part of the day with their grandchildren. With a couple of days' notice, we can arrange for them to spend quality time visiting the classroom. Plan on eating lunch in the cafeteria, to share what it was like when they were in school, or to read a favorite story to the class. Grandparents, you make a special contribution to your grandchildren's lives.

Quest Award

Quest Academy has been named a John Irwin School of Excellence by the Colorado Department of Education. The distinction was based on their CSAP results which made them third among the top ten elementary programs in the state. They were also awarded $5,000 and recognized by the Board of Education.
