Musharraf can also sell out Kashmir: Hafiz Muhammad Saeed
Dec 9, 2001. LAHORE. Ameer ,Markaz Ad Dawa wal Irshad,
Prof. Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, has said that the Pakistani rulers who sold
out the Taliban – the benefactors of this country, under American pressure
could also bargain on Kashmir.
Commenting on the statement of Pervez Musharraf that
“we will not sell out Kashmir,” he said. “If someone sells out honour, no
good can be expected of him.
Addressing an Iftar party in the city on Sunday,
December 09, 2001 Hafiz Saeed said that the Taliban were Pakistan’s
benefactors but the Pakistani rulers betrayed them under US pressure. The
rulers bowed before the US instead of bowing before Allah. He however, said
even today, there was no well wisher of Pakistan in Afghanistan except the
Taliban.
He advised the so called intellectuals to stop opposing
Jihad on the pretext of lack of technology and resources. He said Pakistan
was gifted with all types of resources including technology and manpower but
the only obstacle was the slavish mentality of the ruling junta which stood
in the way of our rulers. He questioned what was the fault of our detained
nuclear scientists and why were they being subjected to interrogation at the
US embassy. It seemed Pakistan had committed a crime by making a nuclear
device as the whole world was raising hue and cry over it. And Pakistani
rulers were begging for its safety. He said India had made the nuclear bomb
with the support of other countries while Pakistani scientists had made the
bomb entirely on their own.
He said that the Indian forces have killed nearly 80
thousand Kashmiris in Held Kashmir over the last twelve years but the US has
always been advocating the solution of the Kashmir only through dialogue. On
the other hand, only a few thousand people died in the World Trade Centre
and the Pentagon but the US discarded all human rights and international
norms. Why the US did not talk of dialogue on Afghanistan issue. He said
that the forces of Kufr were out to wipe out Jehad but Washington would soon
realize that honour has not died down in the Muslims masses
He said time was fast approaching when the Pharaohs of
the present era would meet their doom.

US running Afghan
operations from Gulf
KUWAIT, Dec 9 : The United States has transferred command of its ground
forces in Afghanistan to Kuwait and sent the head of the US Third Army to
the Gulf Arab State to run operations, defence sources and officials said
Sunday.
The US embassy in Kuwait said Lieutenant-General Paul Mikolashek, 54, head
of the US Third Army, had been temporarily deployed to Kuwait from Atlanta
to run US Army Forces Central Command operations in Afghanistan.
The decision to move ground forces command operations for Afghanistan to
Kuwait was taken due to time zone and distance challenges, the embassy said.
Mindful of the sensitivity of the US military presence in the oil-rich
region among many Arab States, the defence sources stressed that allied
commanders were only directing operations from the region and not deploying
forces from there.
The US embassy spokesman said the US military is not deploying ground combat
units from Kuwait to Afghanistan.

Journalist Robert Fisk beaten by Afghan mob
LONDON, Dec 09 : A British journalist has been attacked and beaten
by a mob of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
Robert Fisk, 55, a veteran foreign correspondent for the London-based
Independent national newspaper, was assaulted when his car broke down on the
road between the border city of Quetta and Charnan, according to CNN
reports.
He suffered head, face and hand injuries after being pelted with stones when
he was set upon by a group of up to 100 people.
Recovering at his hotel in Quetta, the veteran journalist told the Press
Association: "It was a very frightening experience and I am in a lot of pain
but I am glad to be alive.
"I'm going to bear the scars for the rest of my life - sadly I broke down in
the wrong place at the wrong time."
Fisk, the newspaper's Middle East correspondent, had been travelling to
Charnan when his car overheated and broke down close to a village housing
refugees who had fled across the border from Afghanistan.
He got out of the vehicle and was attempting to push it to the side of the
road when a group of 40 to 50 people gathered.
"At first they were reasonably friendly but then a little kid threw a stone
at me. More stones followed and then I find myself being punched and beaten
in the face.
"My glasses were smashed and my spare glasses were ripped away from me. I
was covered in blood and couldn't see anything. I was obviously frightened."
Fisk said he fought back and began lashing out at the mob, whose numbers
swelled to about 100. He knocked a couple of his attackers to the ground but
was then rescued by a Muslim religious leader, who forced the mob back and
guided him to a police wagon.
He made it back to his hotel in Quetta, where he was given further medical
attention by two Pakistani doctors. But Fisk said he could understand the
mob's anger.
"I later found out that the village housed lots of Afghan refugees, whose
relatives had been killed just last week in the American bombing of Kandahar,"
he said.
"It doesn't excuse them for beating me up so badly but there was a real
reason why they should hate Westerners so much.
"I don't want this to be seen as a Muslim mob attacking a Westerner for no
reason. They had every reason to be angry -- I've been an outspoken critic
of the US actions myself. If I had been them, I would have attacked me.
Comments/ Letter to Editor:
ASA!. As a Muslim I strongly condemn such an action but knowing an earlier
incident of bombing the Al-Jazeera TV facilities in Kabul to silence honest
observers/reporters, it does not surprise me at all that someone was sending
him a strong message to stop telling the "TRUTH" otherwise he will be taught
an unforgettable lesson. Prior to these events, Russians treated a reporter
even worse in Chechnya, when he reported atrocities committed by Russian
military to the rest of the world. People who are committed to their
profession to tell the TRUTH as they observe, cannot be intimidated by such
beatings, because their souls cannot be beaten. May Allah guide us all!

US wants to use Pak army against its Muslim brothers, Taliban
Mujahideen.
NEW YORK, Dec 09 : Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz lauding
Pakistan's cooperation in the US led war on terror and seeking its
assistance for tracking down Osama bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar
said that the United States would track them down inside Afghanistan or in
other countries if they manage to get across the border.
"We're pretty sure some people are trying to escape into Pakistan. I think
the key to catching them is going to be cooperation with the Pakistanis
themselves," Wolfowitz said, adding that Pakistan's President Pervez
Musharraf had so far been cooperative.
"I think he understands that his own country is very much threatened by the
penetration of terrorists and extremists. This is a real opportunity to work
with the government of Pakistan to keep Pakistan from becoming the same kind
of haven for terrorists that Afghanistan is," he said.
Wolfowitz, the Pentagon's second-ranking official, specifically mentioned
Afghanistan's neighbour Pakistan, as well as Somalia and Yemen, as countries
to which these high-profile fugitives may seek to flee.
He also warned other countries against harbouring them. "I think we've made
it clear that the leadership of the Taliban are, in our view, wanted for
criminal activity, and that it doesn't matter where they are," Wolfowitz
said while in New York for the commissioning of the guided-missile destroyer
USS Bulkeley.
Pakistani military spokesman Rashid Qureshi has said neither bin Laden nor
Mullah Omar had entered Pakistan and they would be arrested if they did.

US targets Somalia in hunt for Mujahideen and Islam.
LONDON, Dec 09 : American forces have already flown surveillance
flights over Somalia looking for al-Qaeda forces to target in the next stage
of the global war on terror, according to the Sunday edition of The
Observer.
Navy pilots have flown waves of missions to map two al-Qaeda camps near the
Kenyan border with a view to launching air strikes, Pentagon sources said.
US warships have positioned themselves off the coast near the capital,
Mogadishu, to stop Osama bin Laden from hiding there, and to prepare for an
attack if necessary.
Sensitivity over the killing of 18 Army Rangers in Somalia in 1993 is being
overcome by the new, emboldened Pentagon which wants to 'exorcise that
ghost', said a source, according to the paper.
The flights have intensified over the past few days. Relief workers in
Somalia are reported by the State Department to be bracing for action, and
the Kenyan government has said it fears a flood of refugees.
The US has named Somalia's al-Itihaad Islamic group on its list of targeted
terrorist organisations. The Somalia move is the most forthright action in a
steady widening of the war on terror. The hunt for fresh targets in pursuing
the al-Qaeda terrorist network and its leader, Osama bin Laden, has now
spread to Africa, South America and the Balkans.
