Indian troops carry extensive crackdowns in Held Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 15  : In occupied Kashmir, the Indian troops have embarked upon carrying out extensive crackdowns in Srinagar and other cities and towns.

Kashmir Media Service reports that military personnel have been fanned out in bazaars and streets in unprecedented number, who are frisking pedestrians and passengers.

Long queues of civilians were seen at Residency Road near Municipal Park, Batamaloo, Soura, Sonawar, Hyderpora and other places in Srinagar, lining up before patrolling parties of Indian military forces.

The passengers are brought down from the buses and other vehicles and made to fall in line for frisking. Similar reports are pouring in from rural parts of the valley, where troops are victimising the common people. They said that most part of their day gets wasted in queuing up before Indian military personnel. The forces' campaign has further intensified resentment and hatred among the common people.

Eid of Afghan refugees (feature)

KARACHI, Dec 15  : Haji Dawood was busy in bargaining with a hand cart owner who sells used cloths in a sprawling market "Light House" in the down town of the port city of Karachi, to buy cloths for his six children on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The market comprises almost two thousand small and big shops of almost all the items of daily use. This might be spiced up with exaggeration, but it is considered that from needle to aircraft, every thing is available in this market at cheaper cost as against the other markets and shopping areas.

Haji Dawood is going to celebrate another Eid  in this dust-bowed refugee camp instead of his own home in Helmand, southern Afghanistan. However, it will the first one for his 8-month old daughter Fatima in Pakistan, which is likely to be her homeland, perhaps for ever.

Haji Dawood migrated to Pakistan in 1991 from Helmand following an outbreak of war between the rival war-lords who wanted to get the control of Helmand province after the fall of Kabul to Mujahideen.

Since then, he has been in Karachi and selling vegetables and fruits on a hand cart in prominent "Sabzi Mandi" (Vegetable Market). In line with millions of other Afghan refugees, Haji Dawood is unable to buy new cloths and shoes for his kids as he merely earns Rs 100 to Rs 125 a day.

Haji Dawood and the hand cart owner was talking in a typical hard Pashto tone as it was hard to understand if they are discussing something or exchanging hot words. A few minutes later, the deal was finalized at Rs 100.

Haji Dawood bought cloths " Shalwar Qameez" (local dress) for his sons, Abdul Rehman, 12, Abdul Hameed, 10, Abdul Ghani, 7 and daughters Amina, 9, and Palwasha, 5. He could find cloths matching 8-month old Fatima's size.

" Although, these clothes are not new, my kids will be happy to wear them on Eid", Haji Dawood said and added, " You do not need new cloths to become happy. Eid is the gift of Allah and we should be grateful to him in any case".

Dawood has already bought used shoes and bangles for his sons and daughters from famous Lee Market, where shoes of all sizes are available at cheaper cost, besides other items.

" I take my children (only sons) to Eid Gah (a big place where Eid prayer is offered) to offer Eid prayer", he said adding that his elder son Abdul Rehman has been attending the Eid prayers for last 7 years.

" I do miss my home especially on Eid but I have no other option except stay here", Haji Dawood said adding " There is nothing except war and weapons. I did plan to go back to home during Taliban regime but now I don't even think about it".

"I want to offer Eid prayer in Jamia Mosque of Helmand, but I know this will only remain a dream" he said in a choked tone.

Every year, two to three huge Eid gatherings are held in the refugee camp which are attended by thousands of Afghan refugees. However, no arrangements are made for women to offer Eid prayers.

Generally in Afghanistan and Pakistan. People do not eat anything before Eid prayer. They take start with anything sweet like Halwa (a mixture of semolina, milk, sugar, coconut, almond, and pistachio), Zarda (rice with sugar, coconut and pistachio), and Sawaiyan (versimilla with milk and sugar).

The favorite Eid dish of Afghans (in lunch) is Kabuli Paulo (combination of rice and meat with dry fruit). Guests are served with Qahwa (tea without milk) and Nakul (almonds quoted with sugar).

The main feature of the Eid day in this camp is a friendly football match between the refugee camp's team and a local club. A temporary Fun Land is also set up on the Eid day to entertain the Afghan children.

Various religious and social organizations distribute cloths and food among the afghan people before and on the Eid day.

In line with Pakistanis, Afghans hugs each other (but do not kiss on cheeks) after Eid prayers to greet their brothers and friends and even those whom they don't know. Some people hug only once to greet their relatives and friends, while some do the same thrice.

Afghan women remain at home during the day timings on Eid day to prepare food for their male family members and guests. They often visit their relatives in the evening, when the male members are engaged in watching football match.

An estimated 2.5 million Afghans are living as refugees in neighboring Pakistan, and an additional 1 million people are uprooted within the country. The total, about one-fifth of the population, represents the largest refugee crisis in the
world.

Continuing conflict in Kashmir renders 75000 children orphans

SRINAGAR, Dec 14 : About 75000 children have been rendered orphans in the continuing conflict in occupied Kashmir so far.

According to a Hurriyat Conference estimate the conflict has orphaned over 75,000 Kashmiri children while over 80,000 people have been killed by Indian forces during the last 12 years, reports Kashmir Media Service.

The actual number of orphans in Kashmir are yet to be worked out by the official agencies while the statistics maintained by different NGOs and organizations are incomplete and lacking authenticity.

In 1999, NGO Jammu and Kashmir Yatheem Trust (JKYT) placed the orphan population in six districts of the Valley at 15,308. The number must have increased at least by five per cent annually to around 17000 a JKYT official Abdul Rashid Hanjoora said, "But this is only the children of the confirmed dead not those of the Kashmiris who have disappeared", he added.

Hanjoora estimates that two to three percent of Kashmiri population under 18 are either orphans or neglected and do not get their basic needs fulfilled.

The state welfare department puts the figure of orphans at only 4,421 but it reflects only the cases officially reported with it for relief. The actual figures must be much higher.

The Hurriyat Conference which also has a Human Rights Cell maintains a meticulous record of casualties of Kashmiri people at the hands of Indian forces can be credited with authenticity because the official figures always tend to show a downward slide in killing of civilians to avoid a bad name to the occupation army.

Attack on Indian parliament drama to blame Pak: PML-N

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14  : Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has said that the gory drama of terrorist attack on Indian Parliament has been staged by Indian intelligence agencies to blame Pakistan and win the support of the United States to attack Pakistan and Azad Kashmir besides launching a massive genocidal operation in Occupied Kashmir to crush the indigenous freedom struggle.

In a statement on Friday, Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Muhammad Siddique-ul-Farooque said that the drama aims to achieve three objectives: First; massive killing of innocent Kashmiris in the Indian Held Kashmir to crush the indigenous freedom struggle. Second; to get Pakistan declared a centre of terrorism and seek the support of the United States for military operation against Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. Third, involve China in the so-called terrorism.

Farooque said that blaming Pakistan for all its domestic trouble has been a corner stone of the Indian policy as many a time in the past it had staged such fake dramas, and the current episode was part of this policy.

He said that the terrorist attack drama was staged at a time when about 300 parliamentarians had come out of the assembly hall. He said that if the terrorists clad in Indian military uniform had been on a suicide mission they would have killed dozens of Indian parliamentarians.

He said that Indian Defense Minister George Fernandes has alleged that Pakistani terrorists had used Chinese brand weapons in the attack. The fact, he added, is that had the terrorists been Pakistanis, they would not have attacked with Chinese brand weapons.

Farooque said that the Indian leadership had been making claims that after the US-led coalition accomplished its mission in Afghanistan, India would seek its help in crushing 'terrorism' in Occupied Kashmir. 'Now that the mission has almost accomplished, India has staged the terrorist attack drama to seek support of coalition for attack on Pakistan and AJK.

He said that Indian record shows that it killed its own citizens to get Pakistan declared a terrorist state. Substantiating his claim, Farooque said that a day before the arrival of the then US President Bill Clinton on March 20, 2000, Indian intelligence agencies killed 36 Sikhs just to turn his opinion against Pakistan but with the blessing of Allah Almighty its drama badly flopped.

Similarly, he said on October 1, 2001, Indian agencies staged the drama of terrorist attack on Srinagar Assembly, which claimed 30 people. He said that India wanted to blame Pakistan for this incident but its drama flopped when its own citizens said that they seen the Indian police firing at the assembly staff.

Moreover, he said the Indian intelligence agencies staged a drama of hijacking of Indian Airlines plane at the Mumbai airport bound for New Delhi on October 4, 2001 to blame Pakistan.

But this drama flopped within a few hours, forcing the Indian authorities to commit that 'it was just training.' He said that in so many incidents the Indian authorities have killed Brahmans, Sikhs and Hindus and tried to incriminate Pakistan. But its machinations always failed, he added.

Farooque said that keeping in view this record of India, it couldn't be ruled out that the Indian security agencies might resort to killing of Indian leaders and parliamentarians in the coming days to incriminate Pakistan and seek the help of the NATO coalition to attack Pakistan and AJK

Another Indian Mig-21 crashes, "pilot lands in Hell"

NEW DELHI, Dec 14 : The pilot of an Indian air force Mig-21 died after his fighter jet burst into flames while landing at an air force base in Rajasthan, says Kashmir Media Service.

The Mig-21 crashed at the Uttarlahai air force station, 70 kilometres north of Jodhpur. Squadron Leader Madhukar Seth died as his Mig-21 developed a technical snag and burst into flames as he was approaching the runway. There were no other casualties, police sources said.

India's air force, the world's fourth largest, has suffered a string of crashes, mostly of ageing Mig fighters, which experts have blamed on poor maintenance and pilot error.
