Camas Man Sentenced for Fondling Boys
December 17, 2001, 08:00 AM E-mail this story    Print this story

By AP Staff

A Camas, Wash., man was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison for fondling two Hillsboro boys while taking their temperatures rectally.

Forty-eight-year-old Brandon John Oberly was convicted last month on six of seven counts of sexual abuse. The charge carried a mandatory minimum sentence of six years and three months in prison.

The incidents happened between 1995 and late last year, when Oberly, moved from his home in Hillsboro to Camas, Washington. One of the boys told his mother about the incidents in February, and she notified the police. Oberly has been in the Washington County Jail since his arrest in May.

Oberly admitted in court that he started taking their temperatures rectally when they were about eight or nine years old. He said he didn't see anything wrong because oral temperatures were not exact.

Oberly was also ordered to pay for any counseling the boys may need.
