Napolitano Hosts Grants Workshop
Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-CA34) hosted a grants workshop today to help constituents learn how to access grant opportunities geared toward public safety and crime issues. “My constituents need to know what resources are available from the federal government to help us implement programs to combat crime in our communities,” stated Napolitano. “We need to ensure our public safety in order for businesses and families to thrive,” she continued.
Representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Policing Services (DOJ-COPS) and the California Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP) made presentations, explained the grants writing process, answered questions and offered advice. DOJ-COPS offers a wide variety of grants, technical assistance, training and publications to assist law enforcement agencies. OCJP provides grants for programs that address child abuse, domestic violence, drug enforcement, gang violence, juvenile justice and sexual assault.
“It is important that people in my communities know that these grants are not just for law enforcement officials. DOJ-COPS and OCJP offer grants for all types of organizations, from schools to churches, to help them combat crime and make our communities safer places in which to live and work,” commented the Congresswoman.
“Now that the people in my communities know what grants and other services are available and how to apply for them, I strongly encourage them to use these resources. My office is always available to help individuals and groups with their applications and to answer any questions. We are also happy to provide information from today’s workshop to anyone who was unable to attend,” Napolitano stated.
This is the second grants seminar that Napolitano has hosted this year. The first townhall included representatives from seven federal agencies but did not include the Department of Justice. Because DOJ offers so many grants for such a wide variety of groups, Napolitano felt it was important to dedicate an entire morning workshop to DOJ grants.
