Congressman Elijah E. Cummings Receives 91% Rating from
the
League of Conservation Voters National Environmental Scorecard
Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Elijah E. Cummings received a 91% rating from the League of Conservation Voters, a national organization with 40,000 members, committed to helping ensure that our air, water and open spaces are even better for our descendants than they are for us.
"I am honored to have received this tremendous honor from the League of Conservation Voters,” said Congressman Cummings. "My voting record on environmental issues reflects my strong commitment to protecting the health of our environment and the beauty of our natural resources."
The scorecard rates Members of Congress on eight House votes pertaining to environmental health and safety protection, resource conservation, and spending for environmental programs. For example, Congressman Cummings voted for the Agriculture, Conservation, and Rural Enhancement Act of 2002, H.R. 2646. This legislation ensures farm conservation by requiring compliance with appropriate wetlands, planting flexibility, and agricultural use requirements.
"The residents in the 7th District and throughout Maryland have a higher quality of life thanks to the efforts of Congressman Cummings to protect our air, water and environment," said Susan Brown, Executive Director of the Maryland League of Conservation Voters. "Once again, he has one of the highest scores on the National Environmental Scorecard and we thank him for his consistent efforts to stand up to corporate polluters in Congress."For additional information, please contact Ms. Trudy Perkins at (202) 225-1739 or (202) 225-2144, Ms. Devika Koppikar at (202) 225-4741 or (202) 225-4024, or Mr. Mike Christianson at (410) 496-2010 or (202) 225-9876.
