TRISTANI CALLS
FOR INCREASED
INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION
Albuquerque, NM. - Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Gloria
Tristani called for increased federal investment in education at a
rally at a Seven-Bar Elementary School.
"The number one priority in our country, and in New Mexico is
ensuring that every American receives a high quality education,"
said Tristani. "The numbers are glaring: college graduates make
twice the money of high school graduates, and dropouts hardly get
anywhere at all."
"While quality education is our top priority, the federal government
only spends 2.5 cents of every dollar on education," said Tristani.
"While standards and accountability are important, those who tell
you money isn't part of the answer are kidding both you, and
themselves."
"The federal government can, should and must help ensure that every
child in New Mexico has access to a high quality education by
funding programs that:
1. Invest in teachers and teacher training;
2. Invest in smaller classes in modern schools;
3. Invest in quality preschool and after school programs;
4. Invest in targeted programs for at-risk kids; and
5. Invest in making college affordable for all those who qualify.
"It's been 70 days since I asked Senator Domenici to three
face-to-face debates to detail our differing views on the critical
issues facing the nation, including education," said Tristani.
"Well-informed citizens are critical to the proper functioning of
our American government, electoral process, and democratic
institutions of all types. I regret that Senator Domenici does not
share this opinion."
