Republicans accomplish historic sweep


"For four years, the Democrats, liberal special interests and union bosses have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at Gov. Bush and our Republican Legislature, and recently the national Democrat Party elite labeled our governor as their 'top target,'" said RPOF Chairman Al Cardenas. "But on Election Day, Florida voters proved they know how to vote - physically and philosophically. They proved that Florida elections are about what is best for Florida - and soundly rejected the politics of empty promises, divisive rhetoric and national partisan agendas."

Gov. Bush wins again


Gov. Jeb Bush led a statewide Republican romp Tuesday, burying Democrat Bill McBride in a smoothly run campaign with national implications.

Brown-Waite and Harris win Florida House seats


Republicans won Florida's two new congressional seats Tuesday and narrowly defeated Democratic incumbent Karen Thurman. Former Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris won one of two other House vacancies, a seat previously held by the GOP.

Republicans win control of Congress


Exultant Republicans won control of both houses of Congress, handing President Bush a historic vicotry and two years to push through an agenda starting with deeper tax cuts. Sweetening the prize, Republicans claimed a majority of the governors' races and left Democrats grumbling.
