Cal Skinner for Governor of Illinois in 2002
Skinner and Fathers' Rights: Get Tough on Vindictive Parents Who Don't Honor Court-Ordered Visitation

Cal Skinner has been a leading advocate of a father's right to see his children, and sponsored legislation (read it now) to get tough on parents who fail to honor a court order to allow visitation.

"Too many children today have to grow up without both parents," Skinner says. "So when a parent goes out of his or her way to spend time with a child, we need to guarantee that it happens."

Although the legislation pushed through by Skinner applies equally to mothers and fathers, Skinner points out that fathers are not usually well-protected under child-custody laws. "The legal system definitely favors mothers," he says. "This legislation is pro-child and pro-family, and it seeks to give fathers and mothers the same protection under the law."

Cal Skinner's love for his own two children made pro-visitation legislation a priority for him, he says.
