Cal Skinner for Governor of Illinois in 2002

Where does Cal Skinner stand on gun rights?

The U.S. Constitution is perfectly clear on gun rights. The 2nd Ammendment says that your right to keep and bear arms may not be infringed by the government. Where did our politicians ever get the idea that obeying the Constitution is optional?

Gun rights aren't important only to hunters and sportsmen. They are important to every citizen who wants to guarantee the safety of his or her family. Nothing stops a burglar, rapist, or robber quite like the fear that his next victim may be armed.

That is why Governor Cal Skinner would introduce a Personal Security Act to allow trained gun owners to carry firearms for personal protection.

Imagine how different 9-11 might have been if just one armed, trained gun owner had been on each flight. Imagine how different the Columbine massacre might have been if just one teacher had a firearm and knew how to use it. Imagine how much safer you would feel if every criminal had to worry that his next victim might be his last.

Society is safe when citizens are allowed to defend themselves. The Founding Fathers knew this and wrote it into the Constitution. Cal Skinner knows this, too, and will protect your right to be responsibly armed in Illinois.
