Dan
learned early on that public service is one way to make a difference.
Its a lesson he saw in action watching his father Harris Wofford
help John Kennedy create Peace Corps, work with Martin Luther King
on Civil Rights and serve as U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. Dan
helped his father make quality, affordable health care a national
priority and learned first-hand how people can change our country
for the better.
Fulfilling the tradition of public service, Dan directed the College
Access Program that has helped over 3,000 low-income Philadelphia
students every year with college preparation skills and scholarships.
Before that, Dan worked for the Governors Office helping
improve Pennsylvanias public schools through greater accountability
for performance, incentives for qualified teachers and a $1 billion
increase in funding for local school districts. |

Dan Wofford knows that the way to work for people is to make smart choices about public priorities, invest resources wisely, and demand effective
results.
In Congress, he'll put his values and experience to work for us. |

"Theres
no better investment in our future than the quality of education
we give our children. Ill use my experience in Pennsylvania
schools to recruit quality teachers, provide real incentives for
improving student achievement, and make sure college is affordable
for all families. Government cant solve all our problems but
it must provide children with the skills and support to build good
lives for themselves."
"Investing in education
is the key to building a strong economic future. But that means
we have to be disciplined about our spending priorities. We have
to balance the budget while making sure the federal government is
a strong partner in efforts to create the jobs of the future, providing
the seed capital to move new breakthroughs from the laboratory to
the marketplace in key local industries like biotechnology. It also
means investing in the training local citizens need to be prepared
for these jobs of the future. Thats how well keep our
economy strong, and moving forward." |
"Social Security and Medicare
are the promises we make to ourselves, our parents and our future.
Right now we cant be confident that the stock market will
be fair to average families who want to invest and save, so I oppose
plans to privatize Social Security. And in Congress, Ill fight
for Medicare to include the prescription drugs older citizens need
to live decent, healthy lives." | |
 |
"Members of Congress, like
other federal workers, get a choice of private health plans. So
should every American. I think doctors and patients should be making
their own health care decisions, not HMOs and insurance company
bureaucrats. Ill work for patients rights to hold their
HMOs accountable for denial of needed care."
"I
believe in a woman's right to choose and will fight to protect it.
I support Roe v. Wade and will work to increase education,
family planning, and the prevention of unwanted pregnancies." |
