Privacy Statement

Governor Bush supports the protection of consumer privacy on the Internet and the principles of disclosure and fair information practices. Your online privacy is a priority. Our firm commitment to your privacy guided the development of our Internet site. It is important to the campaign to help you retain privacy while taking advantage of everything our site has to offer. Here are our policies:

· We will protect the confidentiality of any personal information you share with us, unless we are required to report it by federal election laws. · We will not monitor individual traffic patterns on our site — only information on aggregate behavior will be collected. · We will only share your personal information with others if you give permission; volunteers are notified that their involvement automatically grants such permission. · Online donors may choose not to have their name and address distributed to other organizations at the time of their donation or at any time thereafter. · You may change the status of whether you wish to receive campaign communications at anytime.
We will continue to evaluate our efforts to protect your information and will update our privacy policy whenever necessary.

Personalization
We offer users the opportunity to personalize their online experience at our site to make it easier to access the information that is of most interest to them. When you create a personal campaign profile, you receive a user name and password to access your profile, and you provide us with your personal contact information such as your name, address, phone, and email address. You user name and password will not be shared with other organizations.

We will not share any of your personal information with any third parties, unless required by law, without your consent. If you would like to receive material and invitations to participate in the activities of select organizations -- such as the Republican National Committee and Republican state parties and their efforts to help elect Governor Bush and the entire Republican ticket -- you may authorize us to share your information by checking the appropriate box on the form on which you provide the information. You may change this information at any time and as often as necessary.

Use of Cookies
Cookies are bits of information that are stored on your computer when you visit a web site. In order to improve the speed and ease-of-use of our new site, we have changed our utilization of cookies (effective July 21, 2000). The new configuration uses cookies to enhance your user experience*, not to store personal information. Temporary cookies are now performing tasks that our previous configuration carried out through a database solution. Both methods enhance the same aspects of your experience, however, due to the overwhelming response to the new version of georgewbush.com, the database solution was slowing our server’s response time. Our new use of temporary cookies greatly improves the load time of the site while still protecting your privacy.

Volunteering Online
When you volunteer online, we gather the following information: name, address, phone, email address, and how you want to assist the campaign. We use this information to contact you regarding your offer to volunteer. We may also use that information to provide you with updates or other material about opportunities concerning the campaign that we believe may be of interest to you. The campaign may also share this information with local Bush leaders, the Republican National Committee and other Republican state parties to help elect Governor Bush and the entire Republican ticket. By providing your information you are agreeing to allow the campaign to share it in this limited manner. You may change this information at any time and as often as necessary. You can remove your information from our list at any time by contacting the campaign at one of the addresses listed below.

Online Contributions
When you contribute money online, federal law requires us to obtain the following information from all individuals whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in a calendar year: name, mailing address, employer, occupation, amount of contribution, and credit card number. Federal law requires us to report this information to the Federal Election Commission. Although not legally required, in the spirit of full disclosure we posted donor information on a daily basis on our Web site for all contributors regardless of how much they contributed.

Federal Election Law prohibits Governor Bush and Secretary Cheney from accepting contributions for general election campaign purposes. The Bush-Cheney campaign, however, may continue to raise and receive private funds to pay for its legal and accounting expenses during the general election and the FEC's post-election audit. Such contributions are made to the campaign’s General Election Legal and Accounting Compliance Committee (GELAC). The privacy policies associated with this fundraising afford the ultimate in individual protection and are detailed on the GELAC contribution page.

Receiving Campaign Updates
When you subscribe to Bush News, we will use your email address to send you regular campaign updates. We will also contact you about recent speeches and news about the campaign and inform you of upcoming events in your area. You may unsubscribe to any of our electronic newsletters at anytime by following the instructions contained at the end of every newsletter. You may also opt out of receiving future mailings at any time by contacting the campaign at the mailing address provided below. We will not share any of the personal information that you provide to subscribe to Bush News with third parties.

Daily Trivia and Enter and Win Contests
When you enter or participate in one of our contests, we ask for contact information. For example: name, address, telephone number, email address. Information requested will vary depending upon the contest. We will not share any of your personal information with any third parties, unless required by law, without your consent.

On some contest forms, you will have the option to receive material and invitations to participate in activities of select organizations - such as the Republican National Committee and Republican state parties and their efforts to help elect Governor Bush and the entire Republican ticket -- you may authorize us to share your information by checking the appropriate box on the form on which you provide the information. You may change this information at any time and as often as necessary. If the contest form does not include the checkbox option, your profile will not be shared with any third parties.

Internet Protocol Reporting
We use your IP (Internet Protocol) address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our Web site quality. We do not use IP addresses to personally identify users. The campaign does use a log file of IP addresses to determine which areas of our site visitors like based on the volume of traffic and on aggregate geographic data. This information is used to better prepare future site content based on the interests of users. The campaign does not track the usage patterns of individual users at any time.

Information Protection
Our site also has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Georgewbush.com is run on servers located in a secure server room and locked in a rack. Staff is onsite 24 hours a day, monitoring equipment and services.

Links to Other Sites
Our site contains links to other sites and servers. The campaign is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites.

Children's Guidelines
We have strived for our Web site to meet the general industry guidelines that promote fair information practices and protect children. We do not collect contact information at our Youth Zone site designed for children. Nor do we entice children -- by the prospect of a special game, prize or other activity -- to divulge any information at the Youth Zone. Outside of our Youth Zone, we do not knowingly collect contact information from children, and you must be at least 18 years old to participate in any of our contests. The campaign encourages parents to participate actively in their children’s Internet experience.

Opting Out and Modifying Information
We provide users the opportunity to opt out of receiving any further communications from us when they receive distributions of Bush News. We also give users the option of contacting us at any time to remove their information from our database or to stop receiving future distributions of Bush News or volunteer information.

* We use cookies not to store or gather your personal information, but to enhance your use of our site. Specifically, cookies ensure that our site delivers the information you request. For example, if you use the pull-down menu to obtain a Spanish language version of our site, our cookies ensure that the ensuing pages you request are all delivered in Spanish until and unless you ask for an English translation or end your session. These cookies do not function once you end a particular session on our site. In addition to the temporary cookie, when you input and submit information on georgewbush.com, we store a cookie to assist our servers in identifying users upon return to the site.
