The Libertarian presidential ticket appeared on all 50 state ballots (plus
DC) in the past two elections
and is expected to appear on every ballot in the 2000
election. Our candidates for President
and Vice-President were nominated on July 2-3, 2000 at our
national convention in Anaheim, CA.
The Libertarian Party expects to field up to 2,000 candidates in this
year's elections, more than all other third parties combined. We will contest a
majority of seats in the U.S House as well
as a majority of the Senate seats
up for election this year -- the first time in eighty years that any third
party has accomplished this. This includes a majority of the "swing" districts that
will determine control of the U.S. House.
We are building a new political party from the grassroots up, and the vast
majority of our candidates are running for local office.
Currently, 166 Libertarians hold elective office, more than twice as many as all other
third parties combined. Our highest elected official is Vermont State
Representative Neil Randall, who is also the highest ranking elected
official of any national third party.
Although candidate filing deadlines have passed in some states, the
Libertarian Party is actively recruiting additional candidates in the
remaining states. We hope you'll consider running for office
as a Libertarian candidate, or volunteer
to work on a Libertarian campaign in your community.
If you decide to get involved in a Libertarian campaign, you'll find
extensive online campaign resources that can help.
Please take advantage of them.
